Good morning on Tues, June 30

Hi,

The end of June! Amazing. So fast. The ride in wasn't too bad as the rain was mere drizzle. I had a nice morning with Toby where we cuddled lots and he played UB Funkeys. So I think we were both happy. And although I find the 8.30am commute way more horrid than my 7am commute, the drivers were all good this morning. Maybe it was because I was very slow on the wet road...

I have a release today. After 1730 NZ time go and see www.marketnewzealand.com to see a website I built. Woo hoo!

We were supposed to be going out for dinner but it has been cancelled (for some unknown reason). So no babysitting required (Sally was teed up to turn up and look after Toby). We did promise Burger Wisconsin for tonight so I guess that is still on. Haven't had that for a while.

My gunky eye isn't gunky today bit it is still a bit bloodshot. Very odd. Not sure what is happening there.

And that is that. I need a cup of tea. Did I drink mine at home this morning I wonder? Maybe it is waiting for me on some ledge somewhere in the house. Heheheheh.

Have a great day!
Love,
Angela

Good morning on Mon, June 29

Hi,

What a whirlwind weekend. Let's see. Saturday I took Toby swimming while Mike went into work to get ready for the conference this week that he is presenting at. Then Toby and I went shopping and bought presents for the multitude of parties were were about to attend this weekend.

After lunch the first party kicked in and Toby and I drove to Island Bay to meet Ashwin for his 5th birthday. Great fun. Toby was overwhelmed a bit by the 29 children in the community hall and spent a bit of time outside (I am having privacy time - he told me). But he held his own when he had to.

The rest of Saturday was the calm before the storm as we had three birthdays to celebrate on Sunday. We started with brunch for Mum's birthday and Sally volunteered her place. Sally cooked up a storm and we ate lavishly.

Then we were off to Karori Pool for Zoe's birthday. This was a pool party and Toby loved it. He was the only boy invited to the party and was surrounded by 12 girls constantly. He also got a little alone time in the big pool for 15 minutes at one stage too. Toby was a big hit at this bash and it was difficult to get him away. However, he changed himself at the start in the men's changing rooms and again at the end. It seemed to take ages at the end waiting for him and I remembered how much he likes standing under a hot shower. So I sent Pete in (Zoe's Dad) but Toby was just coming out. I was very proud of the fact that despite pushing the shower button in 20 times (that's what he said) he did get out and get dressed by himself. Good on him.

Then we were off to Te Papa for Evan's birthday. I went to work to listen to Mike's presentation which is coming along nicely. Then I went home to prepare dinner. Kara came around and Mike collected Toby from the end of Evan's party and we all ate and had a good time.

So, now I am exhausted and have a busy week ahead at work. I have a release tomorrow night and a conference to attend at the end of the week. Busy. Mike has something to show off at the conference too. Heheheheh. Look here: http://www.regonline.com/builder/site/tab3.aspx?EventID=714444 He's speaking with famous people!

Have a great week.

Good morning on Fir (hooray), Jun 26

Hi,

Happy birthday Michelle! Have a great day!

Mike worked late last night. I think he got home about 10.30pm and then stayed up because he was still keyed up. 1am I think he came to bed. He'll be feeling it today.

Toby and I had a pleasant evening. And tonight we'll pop over to Grandy and Gramps's place for tea after work/school. Then head home to watch a movie together.

Not much else happened. The weekend is full of birthday parties. Toby will have attended 4 by the end of Sunday. Phew! Ashwin (from his daycare at Pipitea) will have his party tomorrow. Zoe has hers at 1pm on Sunday at Karori pool, Evan has his at 1pm as well but his goes till 6pm so Toby will join that one after Zoe's finishes. And we all have brunch at 10.30am to celebrate Mum's birthday over at Sally and Andrew's place.

Then we come to work on Monday to recover from the weekend's excesses!

I hope you all have weekends lined up as exciting as ours.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Thurs, June 25

Hi,

What a lovely morning - I was expecting rain for some reason. Habit, maybe? And it was a pleasant ride in. So, all very nice. I am riding everywhere nice and slow so I don't get any coughing fits and it is fine like that. The ride home yesterday was no problem.

Karate went well, although Toby is having trouble concentrating. He has ants in his pants for 25 minutes of the 30 minute class.

We also popped into the tramping club night and I got my membership form completed. Toby and I can act as members now (although it won't be formal until the second Tuesday in July when the committee meets next) and we have some complicated payment to make (A couple charge, minus Mike's membership single, plus Toby's family junior charge - phew!).

Tonight Mike has a release scheduled to go from 1800 to 2000. So I am unsure of my table tennis session tonight. I'll look after wee Toby and put him to bed and then hopefully Mike will get home in time for me to be there by 2030. That'll be alright. Any later and I'll be too sleepy to leave the house.

Dad went home sick from work yesterday. I hope he feels better soon. Toby wants to give Grandy a present that will cheer up Gramps. Heheheheh.

Ok. Time to have a nice cup of tea.

Love,
Angela

The best cheese in the whole world

Is without a doubt, Fromager Des Clarines. We love it. And after years of searching you may know that we've tracked it down for order only at Truffle Food and Wine in Wellington. Go talk to John and tell him we sent you.

I shared this at our work French class today, and everyone loved it. But Sophie our French French teacher said that she knew of a far nicer cheese called Epoisses, and told us all just how wonderful it is, especially with a glass of Burgundy.

This is also a cheese we know very well but for quite different reasons! I suggested she didn't need to bring it in for us.

Good morning on Wed, June 24

Hi,

A lovely morning but I am still on the bus - this cold is wearing me down a bit. But I hope to ride home this afternoon and collect wee Toby for karate. Fingers crossed. I wonder if my mother will pop around to get Toby ready? If so, she is welcome to stay for dinner and take some home for Dad (of have him come home too). We have slow cooker stew - with loads of it!

I went out last night with Lesley to her local pub quiz. We had loads of fun. We must have been pretty close to third place but they had added it up wrong. They never counted our bonus rounds so when Lesley pointed that out to them, we got a $10 voucher for next time. It is a regular thing for Lesley. I might make it semi-regular myself. And I'll take Mum along if they have some people missing (it seemed quite crowded last night) because she would have got a few questions. Gerry and the Pacemakers indeed! And the name of the Beatles debut album. Why would I know that stuff?

Mike seems better after his migraine yesterday. He came into work and even climbed 54 flights of stairs with his 10 kg backpack on (training for his tramping and snowcraft). Mad fool.

Anyhow, busy day lined up so I better get stuck in.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Tues, Jun 23

Hi there,

Poor wee Mike woke with a migraine this morning. He took his medicine and when I spoke to him at 8am, he said he would come into work. Madness I thought, but there you go.

Keas went very well last night - we have to get organised for next week's one now. Yikes. Games and activity suggestions please! Heheheh.

We have nothing on tonight although a friend goes to a local pub quiz on Tuesdays and might give me a yell. We shall see.

Mum went around to collect her plates from our house yesterday (and cleaned the fridge and luxed while she was there! Our house looked so tidy when we got home). So now she can cook again at her place as she has something to serve food on once more.

That's about it really. I feel a little better and I'm hoping I can ride home at 1630 to collect wee Toby. A nice slow ride up the hill should be ok.

Have a wonderful day!
Love,
Angela

Good morning on Mon, Jun 22

Hi,

We had a great weekend but I am a little comatose right now. Since Mike got his new winter duvet for his birthday I have had trouble sleeping in the furnace! Mike says my pyjamas have to get skimpier. Hmmmmm.

So, Saturday went well. Mike took Toby to swimming and I tidied the house. Mum turned up with, as Mike phrased it, half the agricultural output of New Zealand in tow. She had looked a leg of lamb, a leg of pork and a chicken. So we did vege prep and everything was in action by the time everyone arrived to celebrate Mike's birthday. It was so nice seeing everyone.

Sunday we slept in and then Mike installed the underfloor insulation. He took 1 hour to install three pieces and then flew through the rest. From 11am to 2pm he got it nearly all finished. Our floor is now warm. Hooray!

Mike's mother rang and Toby will be in Dunedin for most of the school holidays. Polly arrives July 5th and takes Toby back on July 8th. Then Ron brings Toby back on the 16th and he stays until the 21st. So Toby will be planning suggestions for his Dunedin trip shortly. We discussed ideas yesterday so I think we'll write them down and Nana can check them out.

Mike and Toby went swimming on Sunday at H20Xtreme in Upper Hutt. I slept in the car! Something has made me slightly ill and I still don't feel exactly right.

Kea night tonight and so I drove Toby into school so I could continue into town. The car is parked in its usual spot in the nearest car park, ready for the hoon up to collect Toby and get to Keas on time.

Have a great week!
Love,
Angela

Ok. Time to get stuck in.

Good morning (just) on Fri, Jun 19

Hi,

What a lovely morning here in Wellington. The double glove trick on the bike worked wonders and I didn't even need to thaw when I got to work.

Thank goodness it is Friday. We have an exciting weekend ahead with swimming, Mike's party tomorrow night and under floor insulation to install under our bedroom. Oooooo. Mike padded around from the wardrobe to the main floor in our room and the temperature difference was amazing. The wardrobe is over the downstairs bedroom and our floor is over the basement. So, we can't wait for the insulation to go in.

Our friend Brian from ANZ days is getting married on Saturday. We'll be thinking of him. We can't make it to Toronto for the big day. Hopefully we'll see photos at some stage.

That's about it. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Angela

Good morning on Thurs, Jun 18

Hi,

Mike took Toby to karate last night and I met them off the bus. But I had an unpleasant bus ride (which is useful every now and then to reaffirm why we ride our bikes) so I rode in this morning. It wasn't a bad ride in despite my wheezing (this cold is very odd - I am ok during the day but feel bad in the evenings and mornings).

Thursday evening is table tennis evening. Toby and I will drive in to collect Mike as he has a release at work and I'll drop them off at home and head to table tennis.

Tomorrow night is quiz night at Samuel Marsden school with the Sampsons. So we'll drop wee Toby off at Mum and Dad's place and head out to Karori for the fun night.

We have dinner at home on Saturday night for Mike's birthday and we have quite a few people turning up for it. It should be fun. Mum will help cook up a storm.

Have a great day!

Angela

Good morning on Wed, June 17

Hi,

Back at work and the manic, breakneck pace has picked up where it left off after Toby was sick on Monday and I had a day off yesterday with Mike for his birthday!

Mike will head home at 1615 to take Toby to karate today as he is on early shift. I dropped Toby off at school with his medicine in a syringe in his lunchbox. Heheheheh. Odd contents in his lunch today, that's for sure! Hopefully he remembers to take it.

We have snow on the Rimutaka hills surrounding the harbour and it looks very pretty. A high of 9 is forecast today. Brrr. My cold is hanging on so I took the bus in. Soft, I know!

Yesterday Mike and I had fun. We dropped Toby off at Mum's place as he was much better but probably worth keeping him off school one more day. Then Mike and I went in for a movie - it was starting later than we thought so Mike got a coffee in and perked up quite a bit. The movie was great - Terminator Salvation. I thought it was fabulous. Way better than Terminator 3 (I can't remember any of that one!). Then we had lunch at Monsoon Poon and Mike really enjoyed that. Then we wandered around Borders for a while. A perfect day. Ta Ma!

So, we're all much better. My body has recovered from the tramp into the Tararuas and I can hardly feel my sore muscles anymore. I can now get membership sorted at the club! Woo hoo! Toby can do his last overnight tramp in the spring and we'll all be members.

Roll on a ski trip up to the mountain! Toby and I can't wait!

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Mon, Jun 15

Hi,

Well, it is nearly Mike's birthday. How exciting! We have annual leave together tomorrow. Which may or may not be good fun as Toby is sick at home today with earache. He woke at 1.30am crying and complains bitterly after his medicine wears off. So we have an appt with the doctor at 2.15 today.

My weekend was great fun. But my body is paying now for those exertions. I can hardly walk. The group I went with were a good bunch and the weather was pretty good for this time of year. Warm but wet.

Mike and Toby had loads of fun too. Mike built stuff at the school on the working bee and Toby played at various places. Then they both had a sleepover at the Sampson household. That was followed by Sunday orienteering with them as well.

Sunday evening I met Mike and Toby at the movies and we watched Warren Miller's new ski film. We're ready for the snow now.

So, let's see what happens to wee Toby.
Have a great week.

Angela

Good morning on Fri, Jun 12

Hi,

Young Mike is at home on sick leave today. Poor wee chap. We both have a weird cold and didn't sleep very well. However, I am in denial as I am off tramping this weekend. I do not have a cold, I do not have a cold...

Toby is very good. He was so sweet. I got up this morning to have a shower and Toby came into the bathroom and apologised to me for getting up so late. As it was early for him, I said "What do you mean?". He explained he wanted to snuggle up with me before I had to get up out of bed.

I think I am packed for the weekend. I have the communal food and I just need to buy bread rolls tomorrow morning at the railway supermarket and I'll be sorted.

Mike and Toby have a fun day tomorrow - Mike has volunteered to help renovate the school's PE shed and will turn up with drill, hammer and circular skill saw. Maybe Andrew should be on call? ;-)

Ok. Time to get stuck in.

Angela

Good morning on Thurs, June 11

Hi,

The week is whipping by. Toby had a great time with Grandy and Gramps yesterday. They collected him for his haircut (and he looks gorgeous) and then took him to karate. Apparently he got upset when he got his Gi (uniform) dirty falling over. So Grandy had it washed by the time I got home.

We ate yummy chicken schnitzel strips and it is definitely Toby's favourite. He ate more than me or Dad! His plate was clean as a whistle. The mash and broccoli went too.

Mike got home later from his work management dinner. It all seemed to go well. So, everything is fine and dandy.

My work has gone manic and Mike and I have to cancel our annual leave day off on Tuesday (Mike's birthday). Shame, eh?

I have tramping this weekend and I have almost packed already. I must finalise it tonight so I am good to go on Saturday morning.

That's about it. Table tennis tonight (Mike doesn't need to work now so that is good). Mike will collect wee Toby and I have made dinner already so it should be ready when I get home.

Have a great day! Stay warm - I took the bus this morning as Dad collected me last night from work as I had a headache. So my bike is still here. I am getting a cold so I have no idea if I'll ride home tonight or now. We shall see.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Wed, June 10

Hi,

Not too bad a day here - little wind and a high of 15. Practically balmy weather. It is a little damp - but not right now! I worked late yesterday and Mike and Toby collected me so I didn't ride in.

Toby has a haircut at 1600 today so Mum and Dad will collect him and take him there, then to karate. And then they'll feed him his favourite - chicken schnitzel strips. I'll head home after doing a bit more work so I can try and make some more headway.

Mike has a work thing on - all the managers have their direct reports out for dinner. But they have to pay! Heheheheh.

So, that's about it. Although I did forget to mention a funny thing that happened yesterday morning. While Mike was in the shower Toby climbed into bed with me to snuggle. He was under the duvet when Mike came back into the room and Mike had no idea. Toby crawled down to the bottom of the bed, almost under the visiting cat (Merlot) and then he started mewling like a cat from the depths of the bed. Mike looked at the cat, which was not making any movement or noise, convinced it was making the noise somehow as Toby continued his mewling. It was so funny I got the giggles. Mike then caught on and grabbed Toby through the duvet. Toby thought it was great fun.

Toby and I had a good morning. He played MiniClip Trail Bike and laughed as he fell off many times. Then we had a good walk to school and I managed to catch the early bus.

Angela

Good morning on Tues, June 9

Hi,

Keas went quite well last night considering we were ill prepared (read, not). Mike had a brainwave and took the kids outside in the cool, crisp, moonlit night and used my bike light to take them searching quietly for hedgehogs in the undergrowth. They also played indoor soccer and other mad games. We told the story of the Jungle Book and the kids acted out the parts.

Tuesday is the off night. Thank goodness. Mike will collect wee Toby from after school care and take him home to cook up spag bol. Yum!

I have loads of work to do. Typical development here. It is due on Friday (but they have accepted an extension) but I have only just got the design this morning, 6 days after development started. All a bit frustrating. So now I have to spend ages shoe horning it all together. Here's hoping. Maybe it'll all work by 1700 today. Who knows?

The weather is not quite as nice this morning. Cold again - 4 degrees when I got out of bed. But I put thermal gloves under my bike gloves and my hands were toasty pie warm all the way in! Rain is expected this afternoon (or sooner looking out the window now).

I have my tramping plan for the weekend now. We have some side rivers to cross and rain is expected so we may have to change our plans (but the leader doesn't expect so). I need to carry 2 onions, 4 carrots and 2 cans of tuna. And my gear. And my food. And tramp for hours at a pace I am unsure about. Heheheheh. Should be fun though.

Have a marvellous day!

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Mon, June 8

Hi,

What a lovely weekend - Saturday was a fabulous day. Toby wore shorts - that's how lovely it was! No swimming for him for a few weeks as his pool had a burst pipe and now everything is flooded. So they are bringing forward the maintenance due in the school holidays and swimming will run through the school holidays. Very complicated.

So, instead we got our refund on our broken dehumidifier (1 year and 11 months into its warranty - lucky, eh?) and went to see Dad and got a new one for the same price! Woo hoo! It is in the downstairs room sucking up moisture as I type! We also squashed in a trip to the library in town and lunch at Clarks.

Then we went to get a light for Toby's bed so he can read and then turn off his light to go to sleep. The light wasn't in stock in town so we went out to Lower Hutt to get it and visited an art exhibition where some work colleagues were exhibiting. Some were very good indeed.

Back home for the evening and Toby enjoyed his new bed light. Mike said he was quite proud of it.

Sunday we woke late and slowly got ready for a drive to Otaki with Mum to see the Icebreaker outlet store there (Dad got a new undergarment and we all got new jerseys). We had lunch on the way and then after took Toby to the adventure park at Levin. This is now a definite favourite of his.

So, that was our weekend. It is Keas tonight so a busy evening for us.

Have a great week!

Angela

My team might have beaten Angela's team - but we didn't get first.

Good morning on Fri, June 5

Hi,

Was it really only a 4 day week? Thank goodness for it being Friday. Sally managed the number 14 bus just fine to Toby's school and Toby led the way home. It sounds like they had a good night together and Toby was pleased to have his Aunty Sally look after him. While Aunty Sally was looking after Toby, Mike and I were competing against each other in our work quiz.

Turns out the three teams from IT came first, second and third. However, I am a bit gutted to have been in the team that came third. I didn't beat Mike's team!

It was lots of fun, and reminds me we should do a few more quizzes as I do enjoy them.

The weekend is approaching. We have swimming tomorrow followed by a wee art exhibition (some work colleagues are exhibiting their water colours from their class). Sunday may be free entirely at this stage. I may ask someone to look after Toby for a few hours on Saturday so Mike and I can get some work done at work! Yikes!

Anyhow - I hope you all have a great weekend.

Angela

Good morning on a chilly Thurs, June 4

Hi,

A proper frost here - ice thick on the cars. I stayed in bed an extra hour and caught the bus in with Mike. We've got a work function on tonight so it was easy to catch the bus and justify it all. How cold would my fingers and toes have been this morning on the bike? Brrrr.

So it is an excellent day - no wind (hence the good frost) and clear skies. A Dunedin day.

Mike and I dropped off Toby and he was good. We even managed to catch the early bus.

Karate was good last night and Dad came to watch. Then we drove into Strawberry Fare to meet Mike and have dinner. The service was quite slow so it was a late night for Toby. But Ma thought her lemon and chocolate baked cheesecake was the best she's ever tasted. So there you go!

So, Aunty Sally is off on the 14 bus to Toby's school to babysit him for tonight. When we get home I'll drive Sally home so she can try and get a reasonable night sleep in. The organiser of tonight's event doesn't expect it to go much later than 9pm but then Mike and I have to catch a bus. Ta Aunty Sally! Toby has a house key on his backpack zip.

Have a great day!
Love,
Angela

Good morning on Wed, June 3

Hi,

The short week is flying by - but that is what short weeks are for, eh? The weather is lovely again today and I enjoyed the ride in. Hardly any wind and almost completely dry roads even in the gullies.

Last night was our only night with nothing on after school/work. Although Mike needed to buy some stuff for the quiz night on Thursday for his team. So he was busy. And then he drove Toby in to see me as I finished off at work at 1800. Toby sat at my desk drinking hot chocolate and watching You Tube videos. He must think that's what I do at work I think.

Mike cooked up the butter chicken and it was fantastic. He can make it again next time! Yum.

Tonight is karate night and I think Ma will pop over to get Toby ready (oh - his Gi will be in its bag in the linen cupboard). We're off to Strawberry Fare afterwards for dinner. We promised Toby when we couldn't get in last Friday night. Imagine that place being booked out.

Then tomorrow night is the work quiz night. Hopefully we get a babysitter sorted for Toby. I'll be missing table tennis though.

So, that's about it. I need a cup of tea about now.
Love,
Angela

Good morning on Tues, June 2

Hi,

A lovely dry ride into work today. I had Toby drop-off duty so it was bright daylight with some strange bright object in the sky and I had to squint. It may be the sun but I rather forget what it looks like.

Toby had a great morning playing on his Wii and me running around trying to get things done as per usual. Butter chicken is ready for Mike to cook up when he gets home. Onions chopped and in the fridge and chicken marinading in the fridge too. Recipe on the bench!

The weekend was good but I do feel like it wasn't long enough. The normal two day ones are also not long enough.

Saturday we got lots done in our bedroom and now we have curtains up once more. Mike painted any bare wood in sight and it is looking good. We slept in Monday morning until 9am so it shows you what curtains will do for your sleep. Jennie popped in on Saturday morning with Ollie to say a quick hello.

Sunday we went up to Waikanae to see the Tabors in their rented holiday house. They had friends there too and we had a great dinner and chat. Toby played in the snow flurries outside when they came over. Yes - we had snow on Sunday. The flurries came and went all day. Nothing settled although Mike saw snow on the hills above Waikanae.

Monday we went to feed Georgia (Christine's horse) and then fed Christine and Tom! Then we headed off to Kara's for a late lunch. Yummy lamb roast. It was great - roast veges and gravy. And self saucing chocolate pudding. And good conversation as always.

So, although it was three days long, I feel the need for a holiday. Not sure why. Anyhow, I have a busy two weeks with a project due next Friday and changing goal posts. So I'd better get cracking.

Have a fun week.
Love,
Angela
