The Monday back at work after being on the Sunshine Coast

Hi,

Ok - this is hard work being back after a week away visiting the parents n Queensland with Toby.  The alarm was a rude shock this morning.

I'll blog about the holiday tonight, at my leisure.  But for now, just know that the week was fantastic fun.

I won a prize for dragon boating!  So chuffed!

Before I left on Friday, Apr 20, we had the awards dinner for our dragon boating team.  Thumbs up to Celia and Matt for another great season.  And I won "Most Dedicated" - so chuffed!  Thank you.  It is a team sport after all.

I ran into work this morning.  However, it wasn't entirely successful.  I got to the steps leading to Grant St and although it was dark, I thought I might be getting a migraine as there were gaps in my vision.  And by the time I got to MoH, I could tell.  The vision blurred and I decided to walk the rest of the way.  Got through most of yoga before my head started a small yet insistent pounding.

Weird.

Anyway - got lots to sort out.  Hope your week is a good one!

Love,
Angela

The Wednesday with Jase heading home

Hi,

Happy birthday to Vince today!  And that means it is also Michael's birthday in a few days.  I hope my nephews have a great birthday week.

Yesterday was a little frantic - but at least one of my meetings fed me.  Bonus!  And I did get a coffee date with Ed out of the blue.  Caught up with his take on things happening around the traps.

Ed took a photo at our spontaneous coffee meeting

Yummy meeting food

It was Jase's last day with us and I cooked a fast dinner for us all when I got home, and then Jase and I piled into the car.  We collected Mike from his work, and then went to the airport.  We may have been a bit early - but that made me and Jase less anxious about the travel.  Early is good.

His flight was delayed, and Mike had another engagement in town.  So we left Jase, met Andrew (his flight was coming back to Wellington after a day in Hamilton) and collected him.  Dropped Mike in town for his drinks and then I drove Andrew home.

Back home - and to bed.

Jase got back to Auckland fine.  Woot.  Wally has sorted the car situation.  Epic adventures.

Got up early and walked to work.  Gorgeous morning.  Stunning.

Gorgeous morning

Iced latte - this morning with Andrew
And managed to grab more time with Andrew for a catch up with him.  I am caffeinated up and ready for anything.

Although - it looks like the "anything" has already happened this morning and I will be busy all day.

But - off for a week.  On the early flight to Brisbane tomorrow morning with the Tobster.  Oossshh!

Have a good day!

Love,
Angela

The Tuesday with burger night

Hi,

I can't believe Jase's visit is almost over.  It's been fun having him here again.  Yesterday Toby and Jase went to see Pacific Rim - Uprising.  The sequel fell into the trap of thinking it needed a plot and some acting.  Apparently.  Now Mike is in negotiation with Toby to see it together at a later date.  Hahahah.  Toby says no.  Mike might be in trouble,  Mike-no-mates might need to go see it.

Anyway, Toby went to the gym after the movie (I met Mike on the street on Lambton Quay and we exchanged keys with the gym fob for a Gilbert logistics plan - one that didn't actually involve the ferry at all!) and then him and Jase came back to my work.

During the day I caught up with a colleague from my old work - Cate! She is an iced coffee connoisseur too but prefers the ice cream and cream versions.  However, she may have converted me to her idea.  She brings her own metal straws.  Oh yeah!  Moore Wilsons - I am coming to find my straws.

Little Peckish iced coffee with Cate

Scoring the concrete has started

Looks good

After the movie and gym, we all went to Fork and Brewer for drinks and a snack before burger night at Burger Liquor.  Caught up with Jo, Momo and Jon.  Jon got there early too - but Mike told me it was Jonathan.  I had never met Jonathan.  And Mike confused me further by saying he was Jo's flatmate.  I knew I had never met a Jonathan flatmate.

When Mike got there, and we sat together and chatted, waiting for the others, Jo came in.  And went straight to Jon.  And Mike said:  Oh, Jonathan is here already.  And I went:  Oh, Jon!

I don't know why Jonathan and Jon wasn't more obvious that he was one and the same.  I think my brains might be slowly dribbling out my ears.

Toby decided to bus home at that point, having filled up on popcorn at the movie.  Sigh.

Anyway, we went to Burger Liquor and I tried a vegan burger.  Jackfruit - pulled - like pulled pork, but not.  What did I think?  The chips were good.

:-p

Home and we dropped Doro off first and then went to bed.  Jase heads home late tonight and I really must start packing for our week away.

Jase and I stand in a dirty patch of snow
Here's a pic from the weekend.  Mike wanted a picture of some snow for Doro.  This was the best bit.  Ok - a long way to go before ski season starts.

Have an awesome day.

Angela

The Monday with Jase and a movie night

Hi,

Ok - so Wally and Brennan's adventure continued like a crazy thing.  They ended up managing to drive most of the way to Tauramanui and had to get a tow for the last 8km.  Got a motel for the night - and a rental car to Auckland.

It is a weekend they will not forget in a hurry.

Meanwhile, we had a great time back into the routine of a working week.  Jase slotting in nicely to our house and Gilbert crazy.  Jase and I decided to see a movie after my work.  He met me there and we wandered around to a sushi place.  Grabbed some tea before getting the tickets at Reading Courtney and seeing Love, Simon.  A cute movie about first love.  Not too sappy.  I think Jase liked the mainstream portrayal of same-sex relationships.  I concur.

We just got out of the cinema and saw our bus, so we were home super fast.  Ooosshhh!  Had a cup of tea with Mike and Jase before collapsing into bed.

We have a burger night tonight.  Should be good fun to catch up with people.  I have suggested Toby go with Jase to see that silly Pacific Uprising movie (so I am in no threat of having to go with him!) and then his gym session before meeting me (prior to burgers).  Let's see what happens.

Have an awesome day.

Love,
Angela

The weekend of excitement at Rupehu

Hi,

Well, that was a weekend of simultaneous excitement and relaxation.  Not sure if a weekend like that is ever likely to be repeated.

The plan was good - a weekend to ourselves in the lodge with Wally, Jase and Brennan as company.  We left Wellington fairly late (6.45pm maybe) and I drove all the way as Mike was still a little under par from his migraine in recent days.  The weather was a little wet, but not too bad.

We got to Ruapehu around 11pm - Mike drove up from Whakapapa village.  We unpacked the car and walked up to the lodge.  We met Wally and his boys and chatted away before getting to bed around midnight.  I may have read for an hour before falling asleep.

Anyway, at some point, this man comes into the room and says a few sentences.  My sleep addled brain cannot catch up.  The man leaves the room.  Mike says "I better get up".  I say "Who was that?  Was that Wally?"  Yep - brain slowly catching up.  And then I realised what he had said at the end.  There is an ambulance here for Brennan.  Yikes!  I leap out of bed and throw on my hoodie and find paramedics in Brennan's room.

He has had a diabetic low and convulsions.  They bring him into the bathroom where they prep him for getting glucose.  As Wally gets dressed and I hold Brennan, the wonderful paramedics pump glucose into Brennan's arm.  As soon as it hits his bloodstream, his breathing goes from fast shallow breaths to deeper, slower ones.  The body is an amazing thing.

They have the fire rescue service there soon, and they strap Brennan into a stretcher for the walk out to the ambulance.  Mike takes Wally's car and Jase travels with him.  Wally is in the ambulance with Brennan for the trip to Taupo hospital.  They have to swap out drivers along the way (distances are measured).  I stay behind to man the lodge (with Toby).  I have to say, for a 4am call out, they are all wonderful, professional people.  By the time they all leave, it must be close to 6am.  All up, there would have been ten people in the lodge for this.

Anyway, I get updates from everyone during the day.  Brennan is fine, but they are waiting for him to keep some food down before discharging him.  He gets a lot of sleep.  Toby gets a lot of sleep.  No one else gets much sleep.

I get an iced coffee from Wally - easily a 10/10.  I look pretty happy.

Eventually they all get back to the lodge and our weekend continues.  Wally fires up the coffee machine (he brought his own) and I get the best iced coffee.  Made with love. Mike, Toby and Brennan watch videos (although Wally and I hear Mike snoring through a lot of it).

Watching videos

We chill out before going to the pub for chips and drinks (and pool games).  Back home and cook up some soup and toasted rolls before a relaxing evening and bed.

Up lazy the next morning.  Tidied the lodge.  Mike and Wally did stocktake.  Ate some lunch and headed off at 2.30pm.

Jase is spending a few days with us.  Wally and Brennan got 150 km (if that) before their car broke down.  Uh oh!  Their weekend is really, really odd!

We were home just before 7pm and had a late tea (tacos) before bed.

Great weekend - with the best company.  Thank you.

Love,
Angela

The Thursday with Melissa and Sheryl

Hi,

IT made for a long day on Thursday with a concert at TSB Arena after work.  Started off with Spin, and then I managed to see Andrew for a quick iced latte before his early meeting.

Iced latte with Andrew - apparently he framed it with a halo

I may have also thrown in a later iced latte with Celia.  And convinced her she needed to come and see Melissa and Sheryl at TSB too.  Which she did!  And she got better tickets than us!  Hahahah.

More iced latte on purple shirt Thursday

Iced latte with Megan

Oh - and on Tuesday I also caught up with Megan from my old workplace.  Hadn't seen her since 2011 and she is now a mother to Felix (5) and still at the same work - but doing different roles.

Melissa

Anyway, Celia and I met Mike at The Green man (and Janine) and had tea there.  Pretty yummy.  The Snickers profiterole was decadent.

The concert was so good.  Sheryl started bang on 7.30pm.  She played until 9ish.  I probably knew every second song.  I really enjoyed her session.  She chatted away to us.  Sounded good.  Pointed out the young women today don't play the guitar - they just dance.

Manic Mike - and me and Janine

Melissa was her rocking self.  Came on for Sheryl's second last song (some Allman song) and then after a quick stage change, she came out and before I knew it, it was closer to 11pm than I anticipated.

Sheryl

All in all?  A fantastic concert with two women that entertain well.  I may need to add more Melissa and Sheryl to my current playlists.

The weekend beckons.  Mike just texted me - he has a migraine.  Oh no!  We're off to Ruapehu this weekend - but the intention is to do a fair bit of reading.  The weather forecast looks a bit hit and miss.  Togs for hot pools, I reckon.

Have a wonderful weekend.  The next one I will be in Aus with Toby.

Love,
Angela

The Wednesday with Toby sick and a whiteboard bought for him

Hi,

Wee Toby was still recovering from his migraine so he was off school yesterday.  I did go out after work and buy a whiteboard for him to help him organise his school year.  The idea is to put due dates for credit work due (and appointment reminders).

During the day I went to Just Dance with Celia and Serge at the gym.  1.15pm for 45 mins.  I was really concerned and completely dubious.  And yes, I could not do any of the moves to save myself.  But, what fun I had!  I loved it.  Jumping around like a mad thing for 45 mins is good for the soul.  Pretending I was actually dancing, when really, I was 3 steps behind the instructor, made me giggle a bit.  Put me in a good mood though.  I'll try and do that again.  I doubt I will ever know what I am doing, or be able to kick out my hips like that.

I got home and made some tea (leftovers) for Toby.  Mike was in a rabble rousing mood (I think) and stayed out carousing till quite late.  I may have been asleep when he got home, but I did wake up enough to converse with him.  But I wasn't awake for very long.

The weather was diabolical.  So windy and rainy (maybe even hail).  And the thunder and lightening was spectacular.

Drove in early this morning for Spin (Mike and Toby should have caught the early bus for their gym session) because we have a concert after work tonight.  Date night for me and Mike.  Dinner at The Green Man followed by Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge together.  Wonder what that will be like?  We saw Melissa Etheridge here over 20 years ago.  Hahahah.

Right.  Time for crazy day to start.  I did see Andrew this morning for a coffee catch up.  I got my mail (thanks Sally) and some vegetarian recipes (thanks again, Sally).  Heard about the crazy real estate shenanigans of the extended family - sounds like it is mostly coming together, apart from some storm damage in the mix.

Toby is back at school today.  And all should be right with the world.

Have a good one.

Love,
Angela

The Tuesday that really should be a Thursday by the feel of the week

Hi,

Ok - we have officially hit our first cold snap of the winter.  Global warming seems a long way away now.  All those doubters will be in force.  In fact, I am doubting I'll ever see another summer again, about now.

Iced latte with James

We had driven in so we could drive like the wind to Animates and get bags and bags of kitty litter for Smudge.  But Toby got a migraine during the day and went home from school.  So I changed my drive home to include the vet (as they had called and Smudge's kitty litter was in there now).  Negotiated a horror traffic snarl to get home.  I ended up driving through Kelburn, past the uni.  But the funny thing is, despite the horrific traffic, it only took me twenty minutes to get home.  Wellington traffic is funny.

Got to the vet and collected the kitty litter and got home.  The weather really clagged in after that.  Mike rang and got some groceries on his way home - and Ubered so I didn't need to get out of the house.  I am lucky.

He ate Toby's lunch from his lunchbox and we went to bed to try and stay warm.  I plugged in the electric blanket and set it to nuclear!  Mike sighed with pleasure as he slid into bed under the duvet.  Winter is here.

Cold bus ride in this morning.  Did a weights session with Victor.  Ooossshhh.

Time for some tea and the crazy to start.  Have a good one.  Stay warm and dry.

Love,
Angela

The Monday back at work

Hi,

Back at work - and a few of us wore matching clothes to work for what we call either "mourning Monday" or "ninja Monday".  Depends on whether we're surfing the Monday sludge, or drowning under it, I guess.

The pic shows James, me and Phill.  Osssshhh.

Mourning Monday

Toby was off sick with an upset stomach but he has come right now.  He did do some laundry yesterday for us.   I had to laugh when I saw the way he hung up Mike's shirt.  Turns out he has inherited my genetic ability to hang clothes - and not my mother's or Karen's.  Hahahah.  Whenever I hang out washing with either of those two, they go past after me and re-arrange my clothes.

I left the shirt as it was.

I wonder if Karen and Ma are now itching with some OCD thing so much that they want to fly over and straighten that shirt up.

Bwhahahahahahah!

Toby hangs clothes up with my genetic abilities

Got home and cooked tea for Toby and Mike.  After driving to the vet to see if they had any kitty litter.  No, they did not.  And tonight I will head to Animates after work and pick up a few bags.  Because our cat is so fussy she needs the exact brand of kitty litter or she thinks the floor is a better receptacle.  Whatever!

Raining so much today.  And snow is forecast for Ruapehu.  Wow!  Enjoy your day.

Love,
Angela

The weekend with Wairarapa fun

Hi,

Iced coffee blog alert!

Iced latte with Arthur @ Machete

Arthur needed some caffeine early on Friday so we popped into Machete to introduce him to their caffeine goodness.

Mmmmmm - good as usual @ Machete

Ok - another one.  Apparently that was my limit for the day, said the Machete folk

I may have consumed an iced latte or two on Friday.  So much so that the staff told me after my second one that I had reached my limit.  Oops.  The second one was in the afternoon with Victor and Arthur.  I look considerably more perky in the afternoon pic.

New day, different iced coffee.  Village Cafe in Martinborough

Anyway, Arthur and I got up early Saturday morning and finished packing the car (collected my bike from work on the way) and were having brekkie at the Village Cafe in Martinborough by 8.30am.

ANZAC day looms

Once Celia and James arrived and also got caffeinated up, we went down to the Pinnacles and enjoyed the ridge walk up to the lookout (through a lot of wasps enjoying the honeydew on the manuka) and then down into the streambed for a different perspective.

Celia and James at the Pinnacles

James fooling around

Arthur looking staunch

Something about the shape of these made me curious as to just how big they were

It was quite an amazing place - with fossils in the ancient rocks and weird shapes the pinnacles have due to the erosion.  We ate a bit of lunch before heading further along the coast to Cape Palliser.

Cape Palliser and the 252 steps

Stunning views from there.  I need to take Mike back.

Don't get between the sea and the seals, James!

Saturday night saw us eat at Cafe Medici - and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.  I got an affogato to try and keep me awake through the astronomy session.  The house at Ellstone B&B was superb.  And the night sky was perfect.  Saw 47Tuc, Jupiter and the coal sack so well.  Got to bed around midnight.  Fun!  Celia took pics too.

Next morning we checked out and headed to Stonehenge Aotearoa.  Enjoyed that a lot.  Back to Martinborough for a gin tasting (I loved the bottle - shame we don't drink gin) and then Poppies for lunch.

Stonehenge Aotearoa

Poppies had an awesome platter - and wine to taste.  Another place I need to take Mike.  In fact, I just need a repeat, with Mike!

Iced coffee at the cafe on the corner in Martinborough.

Had an iced coffee to say goodbye to Martinborough, and Celia and James.  Arthur and I stopped in at Rivendell at Kaitoke.

Elven arch @ Rivendell

Me, Arthur and Celia (who jumps like nobody's business!  Wow!

And home.  Well, not really.  Our missing bag turned up in Wellington so I went around to see Col and thank her for the delivery.  And say hello over a cup of tea to everyone at Marion and Malcolm's place.  The Bichan house all emptied and ready for selling.  And what's more, sounds like Iona and Col's place is also about to change hands.  Ooooohhh.

Awesome weekend.  Thanks to Celia and James for their awesome company.  It was great fun showing Arthur a bit of Wellington.

I see Toby is off sick today.  Poor kid.  I wonder what is wrong.  I better buy something yummy for his tea.

Love,
Angela

The Thursday with Arthur arriving

Hi,

For some reason my phone hadn't synced yesterday and I didn't put pics up from my walk.  But here they are now!  Woot!

View on my walk in yesterday morning

Stunning place at 6am with no wind

Iced latte and scone.  Mmmmm.  Machete goodness
I managed to restrict my caffeine intake to one iced latte yesterday.  Hahahah.  Expertly taken by Mark during our catch up.

And after work, Arthur arrived from Auckland to spend a long weekend here.  We're off to Martinborough early tomorrow morning (if I frantically pack when I get home tonight).  Looking forward to that.  Celia and James are also coming, and bring the 'scope.  Here's hoping we get clear skies.  Mike and Toby are likely to stay in Wellington.  Well, there is a mountain of laundry that needs work.

I really need to buy lenses for it.

Have a great weekend.  I love the short working week.

Love,
Angela

The Wednesday with tidying

Hi,

Today is stunning in the best little capital city in the world.  I walked in and enjoyed that a lot.  It takes a while - but today was well worth that effort of getting up earlier than usual.

Ok - two iced lattes in a row raised some eyebrows and made me slightly manic

Yesterday I miscalculated my caffeine intake.  I whisked Celia off for a coffee and that was closely followed by another meeting where Dan whisked me back again.  The staff there told me I had hit my limit.  Hahahah.

I got home vaguely on time and Toby seemed out of sorts.  I made him a simple tea (he just wanted toast!) and then went into tidy mode.  Arthur (from work in the Auckland office) is finally coming to visit Wellington.  And he will stay at our place.  I think he can live in the spare room for a few days now there is a bit of space.

The mountain of washing only grew though.  Looks like Toby uses the spare room as his changing room.  Hahahah.

I tried to make ANZAC cookies for work - but the flour had weevils in it.  I need to buy some fresh flour today and make them tonight.

There might be still a bit of tramping gear strewn about the place.  Arthur now has to deal.  :-)

Have a wonderful day.

Love,
Angela

The Tuesday back at work that feels like a Monday

Hi,

Always interesting at work after a few days off.  Dealt with some crazy and then got to Spin after work unexpectedly.

Iced latte with not enough sleep the night before

Smudge found a great sleeping spot

Smudge found the best spot to curl up and sleep on last night.  She looked so cute.  We have the best cat in the whole world.  She is so cute.

Right.  Time to tame the day.

Enjoy yours!

Angela

The long Easter weekend in Nelson Lakes

Hi,

We had a fabulous time tramping/camping in Nelson Lakes over Easter.  Ok - my organisation of it left a bit to be desired (note below Mike's comments on the dinner I tried to serve him), but the weather was pretty good.  Stunning on two of the days, raining on one, and a bit overcast on the other.  Not a bad selection of weather, really.

I took Thursday afternoon off, as I had a parent teacher interview with Toby's ropu teacher (form teacher - in the old school terminology).  Thank goodness I did that - it was bedlam enough without trying to fit in work.  Toby was at home too - so that was another factor (teacher only day - so they can chat to parents).  Mike and I Ubered home and collected Toby and gear and headed to school.  Ok - that makes it sound easy.  Mike and Toby basically had to pack at this point.  And we had a deadline.

The appointment was for 2.30pm and Mike had thought it was 2pm.  So that threw us for a bit.  We ended up picking up Iona and grabbing her car keys before she thought we would.  We collected her from the Interislander terminal and dropped her at the train station for her long weekend in Wellington.

We drove out to Melling, collected the van, transferred our gear from our car to the van, and drove back to town to collect the punters.  Stacked all of us (well, 13 of us, the 14th person was running late and ended up as a foot passenger) in the van for the short drive to the terminal.  The ferry ride was uneventful.  Got to Picton where Toby and I disembarked as foot passengers with Iona and Col's car key and found their car easily enough in the long term car park.

Toby's hand is way bigger than mine, now.

We drove in convoy with Colin driving the van and me driving Iona and Col's car.  We got to St Arnaud around 10.45pm.  Found the campground, after checking out the eels under the jetty.

Eels at Lake Rotoiti at 10.45pm Thursday night

Tents at the campground
Had a good sleep in the campground and realised we were in the boggy, damp part of the campground in the morning.  Brrrr - I had been cold. Halfway through the night, I climbed into my sleeping bag liner and back into my sleeping bag and managed to sleep better after that.

Ummm - how long are we away for?

Our frantic week ahead of Easter meant our packing wasn't optimal.  And as we emptied the car onto the handy picnic table, it became very apparent.  But eventually we got everything into our packs.  And boy, was mine heavy!

Never get tired of this view - Lake Rotoiti looking mighty fine

Tourist shot.  Is it cliche or iconic?  Iconic!

The day was stunning - so sunny and still.  We got the iconic photo on the jetty with the best view imaginable.  We live somewhere special.

Awesome mushrooms!

We started the walk to Lakehead, but Toby found the heavy pack meant his ribs were not up to it.  After a brief chat around a massive toadstool that looked like it was right out of an Enid Blyton story, we decided to head back to the waterfront.  From there, Mike and Toby booked a water taxi to Lakehead, with all our gear.  And I scurried up the track to meet them.  With no pack, and carrying a bottle of water and a brownie in my pocket, I made it to Lakehead in just over 2 hours.  Well under the 3 hour DoC time.

Everywhere you look, it's stunning

Just starting my walk - and more mushrooms!

Feet and the view.

I found the boys had pitched the tents in an awesome spot - same as we had used when Toby was 8 years old.  Only that was Labour weekend.  And obviously not sandfly season.  They were everywhere!  Lucky we had some Dimp!  Mike was convinced they actually liked it.

Our campsite at Lakehead

Wee robin - so cute!
We enjoyed a lovely Friday afternoon.  I had to give Toby my Exped sleeping mat as his mat deflates overnight and the ground was too hard on his ribs.  The things a mother does.  Saturday was drizzly most of the day so we chilled out in the tents for the most part.

I cooked tea on Saturday - and Mike was not impressed.  I tried to serve him rehydrated beef mince on rice.  The rice was slightly undercooked and the mince was plain.  He took one bite, and declared it the worst thing he had ever eaten.  We shuffled food around, and he heated up some butter chicken sauce we had, dumped that over the top and declared it edible.  Toby ate 2 minute noodles and was happy.  We now won't let me prepare any menus and we need a slightly bigger billy for camping/tramping.  Oops.

Saturday night, once we hit the sleeping mats (me on the deflated one) we heard kiwis calling in the distance.  And a squealing pig much closer.  So close I was sure I heard snuffling at one point.  Mike ended up in Toby's tent for that night.  So exciting hearing the squeals - although it did wake me off and on.

Next day was stunning.  Mike and I went for a walk further up the valley and I will totally stay further up next time.  The grassy flats are beautiful.  No wonder that night had been cold.  I thought it was because it was just me in our tent, but the frost we walked through explained it!

Mike and I go for a walk further up the valley

There was a goblin forest - it's just one tree here though
It took a while for me to thaw out as we walked.  I had to use gloves and my hoody to try and keep warm.  The frost and damp grass soaked my feet quickly and made my feet so cold.  But the beauty of the area was breathtaking.  I could stay here longer.  Obviously with better sleeping mats and a food menu not prepared by me.

I contemplate life while on a bed of rocks.  Like some religious zealot.

We stopped after an hour and I lay out on some rocks (the grass was too wet) and just soaked up the solitude and scenery.  Ok - it does make it look like I have actually died in the photo above.  Or possibly some self flagellation by resting on a bed of nails (rocks).  But it really was quiet contemplation.  And the dry stream bed was perfectly comfortable after Toby's rather flat sleeping mat the last few nights.  Hahah.

Pig damage

Thought I'd take a pic of the pig rooting to show Toby what the squealing pigs are actually doing during the night.  Excitement at finding a juicy root, maybe?  Might make me squeal too, I guess.

Toby enthusiastically rolls his egg

Angela enthusiastically rolls her egg

Mike rolls his egg and wonders why.  Like every year.

As it was Easter Sunday, we had to roll our eggs before we could eat them.  Toby and I did this with our usual enthusiasm.  The photos show this excitement - it is evident in our body language.  Mike, on the other hand, was underwhelmed.  It is merely a barrier to his chocolate eating.  Hahahah.  His body language is saying - what are you making me do?

Stunning colours

We packed up the tents and left for the walk back to St Arnaud.  We lightened Toby's pack and he managed to walk, even though his shoes were not up to the walk and he ended up lightly twisting both ankles as we walked out.  Mike walked ahead at came back at some point (2/3rds the way back) to spell Toby for a bit.

I clean my shoes - they filled with mud

We stayed at the St Arnaud Motor Lodge (or Alpine Lodge, maybe).  Anyway, it was so heavenly to be in a bed.  Cost us $180 but I spent a long time in the shower and washed my gear as well as myself.  I think it was worth it.  Hahahah.

Toby takes odd iced coffee pics
We ate brekkie on Monday morning at the petrol station cafe.  I got an iced coffee too.  Solid 6.5.

This was supposed to be me drinking my iced coffee.  But I like it so much, it's in the blog.

We spent a while reading on the foreshore before collecting other punters from their various trips.  One had a story about her emergency beacon (PLB) activating itself after getting damp, and a rescue helicopter being dispatched from Canberra's Search and Rescue call centre (she's Australian) to find her.  It landed at Angelus hut, much to her horror.  She had no idea it was for her until they spoke to her.

In Picton, Toby and I went through the Edwin Fox maritime museum.  We both loved it.  I think Toby might be a history buff.

Me in the lower hull

Mike accidentally left our important ferry bag in Iona's car so we have an excuse to visit again soon and retrieve it.  We got on the 6.45pm sailing and Mike dropped me and Toby home before doing the car van transfer at Melling.  He's a lovely organiser.

Great weekend.  We need better food planning, and a light, bigger, billy.  And no more sore ribs for Toby.  But take me back there, anytime!

Love,
Angela
