The Monday back at work

Hi,

The beauty of working at home is that I can "go home" for lunch, and have enough time to make biscuits plus eat a lovely lunch.

Made ANZAC biscuits at lunch

And at the end of the working day, I commuted home in 30 seconds and was cooking tea for Toby and Mike just after 5pm.

Toby had a migraine - he was a bit miserable all day.  Just eating comfort food and wearing sunglasses.  He also turned down anything loud during the day.

Poor guy.

In at work today for me.  We both just had our PT session at City Fitness this morning with Quentin.  Boxing.  I am quite mellow right now.  And my arms are like jelly.

Got physio after work today.  I hope that goes okay.

Have a great day.  Hope Toby feels better.

Love,
Angela

The weekend with my mothers birthday

Hi,

Friday was Michelle's birthday - so I sent her a happy birthday text.  And saw her Instagram posts from the far north of Queensland where she lives now (although I think they went on a wee holiday a bit further north).  Looks like it is fun times for Michelle and Tim.  Good on them.

Sunday was my mother's birthday.  We all video chatted to her - she's just had her hips assessed and it now getting bumped up the queue due to her pain levels.  Here's hoping we get some good news about the waiting list and a date to aim at.

Veggie garden coming along nicely.  It's all that rain!

Moxley in the front garden

After the group PT session and New World grocery shopping for Mike and East Day Spa for me, we got home.  Iona arrived at 11.30am and I gathered a few things (I did shower in time too - just in case you were wondering) and we took off to have our picnic.

Picnic time!  South coast.

She does realise I can see what she's doing, right?

Feet and rock pools.  What more is needed?

Rams horns
I made the mistake of thinking the south coast would be much closer than any other beach for a picnic so Iona could get back for 3pm to the ferry.  But we went through town and got diverted around the top of Taranaki St and stuck in traffic.

Sigh.

We probably could have made it to Eastbourne faster.

But the south coast was lovely.  And we ate sandwiches courtesy of Col (who didn't come across for the funeral that Iona attended).  Wandered around the rock pools, poking at starfish and looking under rocks.

Iona dropped me home and headed to her ferry.

Tessa and Toby made carrot cake for Tessa's Dad (it's his birthday this week).  We all watched the new movie about Eurovision - the story of Fire Saga.  I was in the mood.  Laughed and laughed.

I have a warm lap for Moxley

When Moxley left my lap, Smudge decided to take over

Sunday saw a lot of Toby's mates around for the WWE2020 competition on XBox.  Ethan took the trophy home.  Mike and I decluttered my wardrobe.

OMG.  It was painful.

We have a lot of clothes for the clothes bin now.  And I have shelf space back.

Hope your week is a good one.  Andrew's birthday week.

Love,
Angela

The Thursday with a physio appointment

Hi,

Thursday.  Well, after a super busy day at work (how does that happen? Poor planning on my part, I am sure of it - I should spread the meetings far better) I went to physio.

Nikki now knows me by name.  I am not just a knee to her anymore.

Looks impressive.  Stupid knee.

I hope it doesn't take long to come right.  Next appt is Tuesday.  Let me make sure I do my exercises as all physios want their clients to do.

I got texts from Mike saying I needed to buy chicken on the way home as Toby wanted chicken "schnizels".  And wine, more wine.  In fact, when I tried to clarify and find out if we needed anything else (you know, bread and milk - important things), all I got was more encouragement to find wine and bring it home.

And there was now a reason my husband (who remained at home all day - yes, working hard, but still!) couldn't jump in the car and come get me after my (crippling - okay, totally exaggerating there, but how was he to know that?) physio appointment.

Hahah.

I went to the supermarket and bought bread and milk, and I may have picked up chicken and wine to keep my boys happy.

Caught the bus for the first time since March.  There were all these strangers close to me.  Bah!  Hahah.

Mike met me at the bottom of our street and we walked up to the house together.  I cooked chicken schnitzels for Toby and Mike made our bliss bowls.

I love these dinners

Woke to the news that Aus and NZ are hosting the Women's football world cup in 2023.  So excited.  I am going to take the month off work and go to as many as I can.

Go the Football Ferns!  Okay - go Matildas too!

Super excited!

Hope your day is a good one.  Got a busy weekend lined up.  Sneak peek:  Group PT session, spa session, lunch with Iona.  Wrestling mania (OMG - don't ask!  I wonder if someone can ask me out on Sunday to something super important so Mike has to stay and look after the wrestling fun and games?)

Love,
Angela

The Wednesday with dinner out

Hi,

I think I got to work in the dark and left in the dark yesterday.  Winter!

PT session Wednesday morning

We did have a spontaneous dinner with Sally and Andrew after work.  Sally even drove back into town for it.  The trains were broken - so it was all a good excuse to stay a bit longer and enjoy some food and drink.
Mike checks out the honey badger @ Honey Badger

Mike and I got home and it was basically time for bed, really.  Toby was good - but I don't think I saw him at all yesterday.  Just heard him.  So I do know he was home.

Same as this morning.  Shouted down the stairs to him - he responded.  Hahah.

Physio after work today.

Hope your Thursday is a good one.

Angela

The Tuesday where I picked up my new glasses

Hi,

I picked up my glasses yesterday.  They are for reading and up close work.  Everything beyond the reach of my arm is blurry.

I walked home from work to avoid crowded (but still free) buses.  It was such a stunning evening.  Barb from work walked with me to Bowen St where she headed to her house in Northland and I continued up Molesworth St.

Mike had dinner sorted as I stepped in the door.  Perfect.  Buddha bowl - and so scrumptious.  Then I remembered my glasses so I showed them off to Mike.

Showing Mike my glasses

And again - in a pose

But I was amazed to see my hands in full detail for the first time in quite a few years and discover I had the hands of an old woman.  OMG - the glasses have aged me 10 years!

Hahahahah.

And I wondered what was on Mike's face.  Turns out it was just his skin - and I could see his pores.  After Mike finished laughing at me, we got ready for bed.

Slept okay and then up early with Mike for group PT session.  Another nice looking day (I think - it is still dark).

Have an awesome day.

Love,
Angela

The Monday at work but still from home

Hi,

My knee is sore - I tweaked it Thursday night and now I think I have to go to the physio.  Sigh...

I do enjoy working from home.  Made a lovely lunch for me and Mike while he had a meeting.

Lunch at home

Hey gorgeous Sapphire! Ange's elderly cat.

I caught up with Ange after work - and brought her some of the scrumptious birthday cake that Toby and Tessa made for Mike yesterday.

Patted Sapphire and she purred away like a wee engine.  She is so gorgeous and going strong at 19 years old.

Back home and off to bed nice and early.  Mike and I were probably both asleep by 9pm.  For some weird reason.

Slept so well (despite Moxley snuggling up to me so close and restricting my movements).  Up for PT session this morning.

Need to pick up my glasses today.  And book physio.

Have a wonderful day.

Angela

The weekend with some celebration of Mike's brthday

Hi,

Saturday morning saw us up early for the group PT session and from there into the queue at Thorndon to WoF the trailer.  We'd checked carefully that the brake light on the driver's side was working and hoped it stayed like that for the WoF.

It did!

We dropped it back at Epuni and then caught up with Sally and Andrew for a quick coffee.  We'd picked up coffees to go from a place in Lower Hutt - TÅ«taki, the new events centre cafe.  And Mike knocked on the front door of Sally and Andrew's place as she opened the door to head to Zany Zeus for coffee.

Magic timing!

New phone - and it's not even my birthday

Rushed back home and leapt in the shower and then out to the Master Kong restaurant in the old Wagamama place.  Had our own wee room for Yum Cha.  It was $39 for Yum Cha with no drinks, and $59 for bottomless Yum Cha and bottomless cocktails.  I think.  Anyway.  Mike and I had the $39 but he should have gone for the $59.  The cocktails were coming out fast for Janine, Ana and Daniel.  Allyson also went for $39.

It was very pleasant.  The vegetarian options the chef made for me to compensate for the meat options on the set Yum Cha menu were very good. Jackfruit curry - yummo!

Mike and I took Janine home - via Noel Leeming to pick up my new phone.  Woot!  Dropped Janine home and then I chilled out in the lounge, looking out at the wet, wet day.

Sunday - more rain.  I got my phone up and running.  An app copied everything over via WiFi.  Took a bit of time - but it worked well.

Toby and Tessa spent ages making the best cake ever for Mike's birthday.  Wow.  It was scrumptious.  Mike will insert a pic, I am sure.

Monday morning looking good!

Cauliflower is coming along nicely

Garden loves the recent rain

Manic iced coffee this morning (Monday)

I'd show you a few more pics - but my photos are syncing to somewhere in the cloud and it may be going from oldest to newest because my pics from this morning are not available for me to plonk in here yet.

The week ahead looms large.  A few things on.

Today was 9 years ago I started work at my last work place.  Wow.  Time is flying!  And in my new workplace, I am clocking up close to 3 months already.

Yep - time is zooming by.

Have a wonderful week.

Love,
Angela

The Thursday with another day in the office

Hi,

It's Friday - yay-day!  And another absolutely sodden day here in Wellington.  With a bit of wind - just to make you sit up and take notice.

Friday iced coffee from Lewis Road.

I just tagged this post with the "iced coffee" label and wonder why I have a label called "gladwrap".  I am going to have to click on it and see what posts warranted that label.  It's like social archaeology - having an online diary of what we do.

Gladwrap.

Anyway, yesterday I was flat out in the office.  Never left.

My lunch
Tried to escape at 5.15pm, got held up a bit leaving and then met Andrew for a walk to the station.  Wandered around in the underground bit, heading to the Beehive for Mike to come get me.

It turned into a disaster.  My old phone had 25% battery when I left work.  It is on the network so I could text Mike to say I was leaving work and would meet him soon if he could come get me.  No answer, but I headed out anyway.

I figured at this time it would be busy for him to come into town, sop meeting him at the Beehive would be easier for a pick up.

But in one minute of getting my old phone out to talk to him, it went to zero battery and shut down.  Ooohhhh.  This is why I got a new phone.

:-p

Plenty of charge on the current phone - just no network.  So I wandered around, looking for free WiFi.  Found spotty Parliament Free and tried to call Mike.  Phone went dark on me (which is why I want a new phone).

Garbled messages to Mike - in the dark, in the rain, with a phone I couldn't see
I sent random texts and tried to call Mike.  When I finally found shelter and woke my phone up, I laughed at the random rubbish I had sent Mike.

How he knew what I wanted and managed to come get me, I will never know.

Got home, cooked tea.  Had soup.  It was good.

Weekend beckons.  Bit wet here though.  Have fun!

Love,
Angela

The Wednesday with Mike's unbirthday

Hi,

Wednesday was quite busy and productive.  Busy day at work - actually in the office.  I worked opposite Mike at desks so it was a different perspective from the office at home.  Hahah.  He was in a meeting with someone who was sitting next to someone in my meeting and he could hear me over the pod and through his headphones.

Huh?

I must have been very excited.

Met Toby at the optometrist and his eyes haven't changed since the last time.  But my age is showing and now I need reading glasses.  So after a long examination with Andrew (I have mighty fine looking optic nerves) he decided I have no signs of Glaucoma but I really should not have waited for 5 years since my last examination.  The recall said come back in 18 months and... 5 years later.

Hahah.

Now I have a two year recall - and I chose reading glasses.  Toby also got a second pair of glasses.

So thank you Andrew and Clark for helping me choose.  Because goodness knows I am hopeless at it.  And thank you Toby for telling me to avoid tortoiseshell otherwise I'd look like a "Karen".  And not Aunty Karen, because she's cool.  But just a white, middle-aged entitled woman.

Oh.

It would help if I knew what tortoiseshell really looked like.  But after I kept going back to a pair I liked, Toby finally asked Clark:  Are there any that aren't tortoiseshell?

Oh.

Oohhh.  Is that what it looks like?

Walked back to pick up my stuff at work and met Mike and colleagues at Bin 44 for a bit.  Toby got sick of that and caught the bus home.  We went to New World on the way home.

Fell into bed and had to get up too early for PT session with Quentin.  Mike is totally over his migraine.  He was running on the treadmill like it was a Sunday stroll.

Have a great day.  Stay dry and warm.  Goodness, it is so wet here.

Love,
Angela

The Tuesday with Mike's birthday

Hi,

After a day at home for work (don't ask!) we got ready to go out for Mike's birthday.  Yay.  Highlight of the day.

And because my phone wasn't really working I have barely any pics to show for my day.

Dense loaf of bread

Vivienne dropped off a present for Mike for his birthday.  But she didn't get our attention (we may have been downstairs with headsets on for meetings).

Toby, Mike and I headed in to meet Sally and Andrew at the Ortega Fish Shack.  Tessa walked down from WHS to meet us there.

The day was so wet and windy.  Brrr.  The restaurant was toastie pie warm.  Ok.  A bit too warm, maybe.  We all shed layers as we ate.

Such lovely food.  One veg option for the mains - but it was good.  Potato gnocchi.  Mike and Toby had the fillet.  They said it was superb.  Tessa and Sally had the lamb - also got the big thumbs up.

Desserts looked good but I opted for the cheese board with Andrew.  It was really good.  A creamy goats cheese.  Roquefort.  And some hard cows cheeses.  Comte was one of them.  But I really didn't pay close enough attention to the names.

We're going to get a heat pump (for Mike's birthday).  Well, seems like a house present to me.

And Toby and I are off to the optometrist today too.

Woot!

Have an awesome day.  It's Mike's unbirthday today.

Angela

The Monday back at work

Hi,

Today (Tuesday) is a happy birthday to Mike day!  Woot.

As Roz pointed out, I am so slow with today's blog, it is hardly a "good morning" blog.

Yes.  So - good afternoon everyone!

Mike's birthday is today.  He's still sick from his migraine yesterday.  My water bottle leaked all over the carpet before we left the house this morning.  We were late to my PT session (ok - only a min - but still!).  Mike was too sick for his session (and he did look a bit worse for the weather).  We split up to get ready for work - I went to Z to shower.  He showered at the gym.

At work I realised I left my PC at home.  My phone is broken so I couldn't contact Mike.  I mistakenly left a message on another chat saying:  Mike, ring me.  They panicked and asked me what I was saying.  I couldn't read that.

I met Mike and he rescued me.  We drove back home.  I am now snug in the home office with my slippers on and the heater on.

It's probably a good thing for Mike and his migraine leftover.

My phone is still broken.  Except - when Mike uses it, it gets brighter and you can actually read the screen.  Don't ask me.  I have no clue.  Maybe his hands cover something that detects ambient light and it brightens it enough to read?  I have no clue.

I need a new phone.  Mike sparked up my old phone.  It did 317 Android updates.

I also had no clue what to get Mike.  But ended up getting up a back and shoulders massage.  Maybe he has tension there that doesn't help with the migraines?  I hope he likes it.

Could become a regular thing.

Right.  Time to post this so Roz is happy.

Stay warm - it is so wet and cold here.

Love,
Angela

The weekend with mulching and walking

Hi,

The weekend was busy - even if we were still in Wellington.  The cats have us all wrapped around their little paws.  If they get fed early, they "forget" and pester us again closer to their dinner time.

The cats are prowling

Toby's Year 13 school photo
Toby got his school photos (finally).  And - well - he was joking with the photographer and his pic is quite funny.  He looks like he is acting, somehow.  And I think someone said it right - he looks like a gangster sidekick.  Hahah.

Mike's home made iced latte

We spent all day Saturday mulching in Ellie's back yard with no photo to prove we did it.  Mike and I went to collect the mulcher from Malcolm's place - and found Anthony there, looking more and more like his dad.  Grabbed the mulcher (Anthony had instructions from his dad to check Mike was using enough tie downs) and headed to Ellie's house.

She wasn't there when we arrived, so we hauled the mulcher up to her back yard and started work.  Weirdly, it went well for about 90 mins before it decided to putter to a stop.

We figured that meant it was time for a break.  Had a cuppa and some crackers with Ellie and Doro and then got stuck back in.  Ellie's rescue dog, Tiffy, is a lot happier around us now.  She doesn't like Zoe though.

Mulching resumed, alas we didn't get through all of the pile. But we headed back home around 5pm (saw Malcolm when we dropped off the mulcher) and ordered pizza for Toby and Tessa.

It looks like Greece!  But it's the orthodox church near Christine's place

Next day was a cracker. Mike got stuck into the fence and got it finished at last.

Ellie (in camo overalls) helped get the final coat of paint on

Careful with that hammer, though, Mike!

I got picked up by Celia to go and meet Christine for a walk up Mt Vic.  Best idea ever.  And the weather was exceptional.

Dappled sunlight

Manic selfie

Christine and I are in the hobbit hiding hole.  They CGI'd in the tree roots!

Wellington looking mighty fine

Secret garden that Christine knew about in the monastery

Celia and boat sheds

Joe's Garage iced coffee - and vegetables from the market.  Just because.

Back at 12 for lunch at Joe's Garage and Celia spied a table that she reckoned were full of Avatar crew.  We had a lovely lunch and chatted away for a while.

As we left, Christine asked the table of potential Avatar crew if they were indeed from the Avatar team.  And one chap said yes.  Christine gave a fist pump and wandered away and I heard the guy say to the rest of his table:  should I have said yes?

Hahah.

In contact register now - just in case.

This was also the first time I ever got to use the govt covid app.  Yay!

Sunday evening stunner
The day stayed stunning to the very end.

And Monday dawned cold and wet and windy.  Brrr.

It's Mike's birthday eve.  Woot!  But my idea for date night will have to wait for next week because the weather is looking pretty bad.

But we've got dinner out tomorrow for it with Sally and Andrew.  Woot!

Take care,

Love,
Angela

The Thursday with Mike and Toby out and about

Hi,

After a day at work (but from home) it was time for Mike to head out to his leadership Meetup session.  I was in a meeting with Ange and she said she was about to head in for it too.  So I teed up Ange driving Mike in while in the meeting.

Caused a bit of mirth as they all know Mike and Ange and here I was sorting out their evening together.

Friday morning sunrise

Boot camp Wednesday morning
I wasn't feeling super well so I was in bed nice and early.  I think I was almost asleep when Toby came home.  And he didn't have a key so I had to get up and let him in.

He decided on a shower - so I listened to him and Alexa discussing music selection choices for quite a while.  (Toby:  Alexa.... next.   Alexa... next.  Quite often.  Funny thing was, it was my music likes and I thought each song was brilliant.  Oh well).

I was almost asleep when Mike got home.  And that got the cats fired up enough to chase each other.  Which would be okay, but it is followed by Mike and Toby shouting:  Moxley, be kind to your sister!

Often right into the bedroom where I was trying to sleep.

Hmmm.  The universe was telling me something.  Mainly:  stay awake.

Once I got to sleep, I had a good sleep.  Hahahah.

Weekend looks like mulching and painting.  But Christine wants to walk up Mt Vic on Sunday - so that sounds like a jolly marvellous idea to me.  Yay!

Enjoy your weekend.

It's nearly Mike's birthday.

Love,
Angela

The Wednesday with a day in the office

Hi,

We had a good day in the office yesterday.  Life slowly returning to normal.  The city was busy - but not too busy.

Mike selfie

Are you taking my picture, or yours?

Not sure I trust you

Ok - you have gone mad

Yep - quite mad

With Barb and Juliet @ Verve

And we went a bit nuts on the iced latte options.  Mojos gave me one and I also got brekkie.  Mike ate brekkie at work before that.  I need to sort that out too.

Lunch set me back $20!  Ouch!  Haven't done that for a bit.

And we also went out for drinks after work.  So that was extra cost too.

Staying at home is far better for our budgeting.

Drove Ange home (car cost $25 to park for the day under work - more expensive that Clifton Terrace but way closer to work than that).

Cooked tea - chicken schnitzels for the boys.  Crumbed mushroom for me.  Yum!

For the first time ever, I left my phone at work.  Sigh.  Felt weird.  Mike had to set the alarm.  Hahah.  But I was reunited on Thurs morning.  Had my session with Quentin and then walked to work.  Our desks are wiped clean every night at the moment.  So no phone there.  But as I scouted around, I spotted it tucked away on the reception desk.  Yay!

Flat.  But reunited.

Went back to grab Mike from his PT session and then off to Machete for iced latte.  They have survived the lockdown with rent relief and wage subsidy.  It was good to see them all.

Right.  Have an awesome day!

Take care.

Love,
Angela

The Tuesday with a migraine for me and Toby

Hi,

Another stunning day in Wellington yesterday.  But Toby's migraine was contagious and at 3pm I got my own.  Boo!

View on Tuesday from my desk

I was ready to ride my bike in for Wednesday - go to the group PT session and then into work.  But my migraine meant I was in bed super early and Mike had decided to drive in.  So when I woke at 5.30am after a wonderful sleep, but with a woolly head, I decided to take all my stuff in with Mike.

Lucky I did that as I do feel a bit dizzy still.

PT session was okay for my head - jack-knife crunch was the worst.  And hauled all my stuff to my new workplace.  Found the showers.  Found a place for my gear.

I think I am good to go.  Just - no mosh pit for me today.  Hahah.

Toby is back at school today too (I hope).

Right.  Better get sorted.

Enjoy your day.

Love,
Angela
