Good morning on Wed, Jun 30

Hi,

Wednesdays is my Toby drop-off duty day.  We both had a good morning although Mike is still very, very sore.  I had to help him put his sock on this morning.  Poor Mike.  Toby ate his way through 5 Weetbix before we left.  It was raining fairly constantly when we left and I had to put my helmet on for the walk to school just to stay a littler drier.

I rode like a granny into work because of the rain.  It is constant drizzle but I did strike a patch of heavier rain and thought I was going to get soaked.  But it passed and I was just on the damp side of wet.

We got Toby's report yesterday.  Those in New Zealand know this is a controversial report as schools come into line with new National Standards.  I personally found it nice and clear.  Toby has done very well, and achieved either a "usually" or a "consistently" in the areas marked as such.  In Reading he exceeds the National Standard, in Writing he meets the National Standard, and in Mathematics he is working towards the National Standard.  So we have some things to help him improve these areas at home now.

Tonight is tennis (not likely) and karate.  Mike will be heading home on the bus and going with Gramps and Toby to karate.  I'll ride home in the dark and probably will get home around the same time as them.

That's it really.  Stay dry and warm.

Angela

Good morning on Tues, Jun 29

Hi,

The end of June approaches.  The ride in was a little damp - but it was just drizzle.  Nothing too difficult to ignore until the last 200m into work when it was like being under the fine, but steady, spray from a garden hose.

The dinner last night at the Boulcott St Bistro was superb.  Mum now has a new favourite restaurant.  My steak was so nice.  It was a late night for Toby so I hope he has a good day today and we get him to bed early tonight.  At least there is no homework for the last week of term.

Keas went well.  I took my telescope in and because it was so cloudy, I taped three planets up on the wall that I had printed out and we looked through the telescope at them.  The kids seemed to like it.

Busy at work and I have a lunch out today that I forgot about.  I will put my sandwich in the fridge and have it tomorrow.

Mike's back is murder.  He was moaning quite a bit this morning as he wandered around getting ready.  It just went on him in bed yesterday morning as he rolled over.  Very weird.

Have a good day wherever you are.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Mon, Jun 28

Hi,

Happy birthday to my mother!  Hooray!  And happy birthday to Michelle for Saturday just gone.  Tonight we're off after Keas to celebrate with Mum in town.  Hopefully Sally and Andrew can make it, and Vivienne was hoping to make an appearance too.  Give me a yell to make sure we're all still on so we can let Boulcott St Bistro know the numbers when someone arrives (they don't have reservations there).

I hope Mum has a good day, and stays warm and dry at home.  The weather isn't too bad right now; my bike ride in was absolutely fine.  The roads are still wet but it was fine enough.  However, it is supposed to deteriorate later.

Friday night Toby had a sleepover at Grandy and Gramps' house (and by all accounts loved it) and Mike and I went out to a work function.  Mike got into the groove by the time the event wound up and so he dragged me and two other work colleagues into a karaoke pub afterwards.    Singing to a big group of strangers at midnight is decidedly odd.  Mike chose "Paradise by the dashboard light" for a duet and he hauled me up on stage and I bumbled my way through one of the longest songs on the playlist!  The crowd must be used to atrocious singing as they clapped us off and gave encouragement.  Anyone who has heard me sing will now appreciate the crowd's generosity.

I drove us home and we fell into bed and had a good sleep.  Saturday morning we got up and moved Toby's bunk up to storage in the garage (ummmm...  yes.  Sort of.) before heading to Ngaio to collect him for swimming.  As we pulled into the street where the pool is, we thought it odd that there we few cars.  That is, no cars.  Uh oh.  Yep.  Swimming finished last week!  So we drove back into town and did some shopping before dropping off Mum's new bread maker to her and heading off to Waikanae to visit the Tabors.

Wee Lulu has sprouted and Toby loves her.  We went to the beach (after playing Hearts and then 500) and Lulu got absolutely covered in sand.  The wind lashed it into every crevice. We went to Peka Peka beach and drove onto the sand.  This meant Mike scheduled a car wash for the car as soon as we got back into Wellington.

Back to the Tabors for dinner (yummo) and then Toby stayed for a sleepover (yes - who is my son? I have hardly seen him) and we drove back to the car wash in Wellington.  Another good sleep and up to drop Mike off for his day tramp.  The 8 punters turned into 3 (including Mike).  So the three of them left in the rain and I drove home to get the washing on and wait for Toby.  He arrived within 10 mins and I continued tidying up.

Ryan and his mother, Sarah, came around int he afternoon and we had a good time.  They left and an hour later Mike got home.  He used his new birthday present (a GPS unit) so I got to see his trail in details.  Great fun.

And tonight is birthday night.  I'll head to Keas, then drive straight back into town.  Should work out well.

Have a great day!

Angela

Good morning on Fri, Jun 25

Hi,

Not too shabby a morning here.  I took the bus in as Mike and I have a work function on after work.  Ma will collect wee Toby and take him to her place for some pampering and a sleepover.

Mike has postponed his day walk to the Sunday in anticipation of some cold southerlies on the Saturday.  So we're free to head off to swimming then up to Waikanae where we'll participate in a mini World Cup against the Tabors to celebrate the soccer triumphs of the USA (through to the next round) and New Zealand (no losses in the World Cup).

Have a wonderful weekend.  It's come much sooner since I think it should really be Thursday today.  You can't get a better start to the weekend than that!

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Thurs, June 24

Hi,

I am in the pleasant position of thinking today is Wednesday.  I have been a day behind all week.  Any why is this pleasant, I hear you ask?  Well, tomorrow, when I think it's Thursday, it'll actually be Friday.  How happy will that make me feel?

It was my first karate evening for ages last night.  The first time I have seen Toby in his yellow belt (with one red tab) and he looked gorgeous.  Mum cooked up a storm for tea and we had a great time laughing at the stories of Dad being embarassed when Ma visits the local supermarket and makes the bakers and butchers work hard for their living.

Toby played tennis - in the rain!  I think they were sick of cancelling due to the inclement weather and a bit of light drizzle was not going to stand in their way.  Toby wasn't terribly impressed at playing in the rain.  Mind you, Roger Federer also doesn't play in the rain, so I think Toby was entitled to feel a little put out.

Toby went to sleep quite early last night - no book reading at all.  Just straight to sleep.  He was fast asleep by the time Mike got home after 8.30.

Tomorrow night is the work party - a Hoe Down.  Oh dear.  Ma will collect Toby from school (his bag is almost all packed at home - just needs pyjamas chucked in) and Toby will spend the night there.  Then I'll collect him for swimming Saturday and head off to visit the Tabors for the rest of Saturday.

Mike is heading a day walk on Saturday and will join us later.  Saturday looks set to be very, very wet.

Ok.  Better get stuck in once more.
Love,
Angela

Logistical disaster of a morning

And it's all my fault.

I was up relatively on time, Toby was up and dressed and fed.

I caught up with a bit of the news on the internet while I ate my breakfast and ironed my shirt. Lots of interesting things are happening in the world.

But then it was getting late. Quite late. So I got Toby up from downstairs, and got him to head off.

But, Toby was still hungry. Disaster. (I'd sown my own seeds with this by not buying weet-bix yesterday. One bowl of weetbix might be enough - but one bowl of rice bubbles is not.)

So after Toby ate his seconds of rice bubbles, out we ran. Toby didn't clean his teeth. My lunch is still at home (I think Toby hid it). We had to drive in because I'd missed the late bus.

And I bet half the lights are still on.

Good morning on Wed, Jun 23

Hi,

We had bad news from a good friend yesterday saying his parents here were involved in a serious car accident near Plimmerton and they were hospitalised, one of them seriously injured.  So we were preparing to visit and see if we could let our friend know what it was really like at the hospital.  But his father was likely to be discharged last night so we decided against it.  It's a scary thought when you live so far from home on the other side of the world.  This friend, Brian, lives in Toronto.  We have our fingers crossed for the best news for his mother.

Last night was spent doing Toby's homework.  I think they are teaching him physics as he has to make a hanging mobile and answer questions about balancing the shapes out on the sticks.  It's a multi-night homework project.

I'm off to karate tonight for the first time in ages.  Mike has meetings up to his eyeballs today so I'm on earlys and heading off at 4.20pm or so to get home on time.

Not too sure about the likelihood of tennis action this afternoon.  I had a good ride in this morning with the lightest of rain falling.  the roads were partially dry still.  But I think it is supposed to rain at some stage.

Have a marvellous day.  I'm off to get a nice cup of tea.

Angela

Good morning on Tues, Jun 22

Hi,

June and July are always a flurry of birthdays in the Emmerson family.  It's hard to keep up.  Michelle's in a few days, then Mum's.  Phew!

Today is a glorious day in Wellington.  Blue skies, crisp weather.  No frost I could see and my toes were only just frozen when I rode into work.  That means it isn't too cold this morning.

Keas went well.  Wally had to stay home and look after wee Chelsea because she was sick.  But Hannah and Sophie helped me out and there were only three young Keas anyway.  So it all went smoothly.  And we ate fish n chips afterwards at the Sampson house - Toby was having Sampson withdrawals from not being with them for a few weeks.  He may have partial cure now.

Not much else to say.  We have to help Toby with his homework tonight as it is making a mobile and learning about balancing objects and stuff.  Looks involved.

Have a great day.  I need a lovely cup of tea.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Mon, Jun 21

Hi,

Another pleasant weekend.  Although I seem to have picked up my dizzy viral thing again.  The ride down the hill was lovely and it never bothered me until I bent down to lock my bike and had a wee wobble.  Silly thing.

Toby swam very well after his two weeks off (Queens Birthday and chicken pox) and we booked him in again for next term.  He can swim quite well, apart from the breathing bit.  But they are working on that.

Mike was out annoying other patrons at a pub with karaoke until 3am on Friday night.  And then spent all day Saturday annoying me and Toby by breaking out into Britney songs for no reason.  And I stayed up reading until 3am on Saturday night.  I'm a bit ruined.

Barry popped in on Saturday as he was quoting for our neighbours bathroom renovations.  I hope he gets it.  It was good to see him.

We watched "Across the Great Divide" on Saturday night.  I did notice Mike spent a lot of time listening to the movie rather than watching it.

Sunday the rain came down in bucket loads.  We went to the tile shops to check out stuff and then prepared for dinner at Sally and Andrew's place.  What a scrumptious feast that was!

And now the week stretches ahead.  Hope it's a good 'un.
Love,
Angela

From the archives...

Before there was a blog, there was a mailing list, and a website, and notebooks, and all sorts of other ways of Angela writing down the things we've been doing.

Every now and then I find forensic traces of this stuff - and I think about uploading it here.

I've just uploaded the daily 'good morning' emails from July and August 2008. Go have a read! We are doing up the house, hosting sleepovers and getting the odd ski trip in. Seems awfully familiar really.

Good morning on Fri, Jun 18

Hi,

Table tennis was great fun last night - I seem to be making some progress at the moment.  I think my inconsistent shots are becoming slightly less frequent.  They still exist though.  And in more abundance than anyone else in the club.

Toby is doing well after his bout of chicken pox.  Today a wee classmate is returning to Scotland to live and Toby has his Scottish rugby jersey on in Callum's honour.  Toby looks mighty fine!

I am so looking forward to the weekend.  Toby has swimming tomorrow after missing last week with the Pox!  The rest of the weekend will be filled with gardening and bathroom design.  Oh - that I can probably not look forward to quite as much.

I also want to start a 1 hour reading session where I read my book, and Toby reads his and I am on hand to help him.  We have found a series of books that are just a wee bit hard for him (Deltora Quest) but he enjoys it.  So I want to encourage him to read the books.

That's about it.  Have wonderful time over the weekend.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Thurs, Jun 17

Hi,

We had a lovely dinner out last night for Mike's birthday.  It was Mike's present from my parents, so they paid for our dinner.  Vivienne, John and Benjamin came, as well as Sally.  So it was a good night out.  Mike got presents and was happy with his haul.

It meant my bike ended up staying in town though, so it was another morning on the bus.  The roads didn't look too bad though.  Damp but no wind to speak of.

Table tennis tonight.  Hooray!  At least I feel better than this time last week.  I'm beginning to think it was just worrying about Toby last week that made me feel sick.  Mothers!  What can you do about them?  Heheheh.

Better get stuck in.  Have a great day wherever you are.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Wed, Jun 16

Happy birthday to Mike!  Hooray!

Toby's first day back at school went well last night and we had a relaxing evening at home.  This morning Toby was up early and Mike got breakfast in bed and opened his presents.  You can see Toby's card for him.  They were both very proud.

Busy at work today.  All caught up in stuff.  You get that.

Karate and tennis tonight for Toby and then off to celebrate Mike's birthday in town.  Mike is leading a day tramp soon so he'll be running in to collect a sheet of punters at tramping club and then finding his bag he left there last week.  Oops.

Should be a good night out.

Have a great day!  Think of Mike having fun at work on his birthday.

Love,
Angela

Happy birthday to me

Good morning on Tues, Jun 15

Hi,

Brrrr.  The weather here this morning has put a massive dent in my resolve to ride in no matter what the conditions.  It was pouring with rain as I woke and lay in bed contemplating life, the silly radio station and the weather but I committed to biking in.  So I had my shower and got my bike gear on.  But it is Tuesday morning - and that means rubbish morning.  I got the recycling sorted and the rubbish bag sorted.  Then I put my jacket over my bike gear and went up to the road twice with each lot of rubbish.  it was so cold.  The big steady raindrops were huge and cold.  Very cold.

I came back in and changed into work clothes and got my bus ticket ready.  Soft.  Mind you, it has taken a while for my feet to thaw out despite coming in by bus.  Imagine if I'd ridden.

Toby will be back at school today.  We think he has recovered sufficiently from his bout of chicken pox to return to school.  I'll try and leave on time today and get him relatively early.

I spoke to Ma yesterday and she was a lot more chipper after a relaxing weekend.  And Dad has his "weekend" today and tomorrow.  After yesterday's brilliant weather, they'll be pleased to stay tucked up at home out of this weather.

Keas went really well last night.  We got to do our torchlight walk up past the Karori Sanctuary fence and we heard some birds (couldn't identify them, but one might have been a tui up later than it should be), saw a moth and heard lots of wind by the time we climbed high enough.  The wind and the dark scared one of our younger Keas and he held my hand for a bit of it.  But when the kids all ran back down the hill, he was off running with them (not me - I was gingerly climbing back down the track trying not to fall over).

Toby didn't attend Keas - next week for him.  But karate should be on for him on Wednesday.

Have a great day!

Angela

Funkey Fun

STARRING:

Yang, Yeti, Ptep, Deuce, Berger,

And Introducing
Blue Zizzle as 'The Alien'.

Once upon a time there were two Funkeys called Yeti and Yang. They were starting to walk when an evil alien came, and it attacked them! It came straight down at them, swirling and spinning as it went. Yeti ran at the alien, jumped on his face, and nibbled at it. The alien got mad! He fired his laser out his nose to shock Yeti. Ptep, another Funkey, heard the commotion and flew in to help. He used a band-aid like a rope, to swing from one building to another and get to Yeti's aid. He kicked the alien in the face and then ran away again.

Then Yang came in. He slid under the alien's three legs, swung around and did his special attack. What was Yang's special attack? He disappeared and just the Yin/Yang symbol was left... and suddenly there was an explosion that forced the alien back.

Deuce came to help as well. He used his fire legs to fly to the battle and used his fire spin attack on the alien. He got the alien's leg and threw him far away.

Berger saw all the bish-bash and drowned the alien in milk. That was enough to finish him off.

The end.

Good morning on Mon, Jun 14

Hi,

What a lovely, if very cold, ride in this morning.  2 degrees the radio said.  Brrrr.  I must find some thermal gloves to wear under my long-fingered bike gloves.

Mike is staying home with Toby today.  I think one more day off will do wonders for him.

We had a good, quiet weekend.  I went to Ngaio for dinner with Ma and Toby and Mike arrived in time to get some dinner too.  We took Toby home after being pampered by Grandy for a few days.  I think he loved the attention from her.  However, I think Ma is worn out a bit as she has succumbed to malaise since Toby's departure.  Malaise was going around a bit at the end of last week.  Mike declared I had malaise at one point.  Heheheheh.  Let's hope Ma feels better again soon.

Sunday I took Toby out on the bus to town.  We thought he was getting cabin fever.  He ate McDonalds and we bought some books and headed back home. I think we were out for about 2 or 3 hours.  He was ok, but perhaps a little tired out by it.  Well, maybe tired out at the time.  His energy levels rebounded and he played a lot for the rest of the day.

We watched the second half of the Irish game in New Plymouth against the All Blacks (we'd forgotten it was on until Mike got a text from Grant in London saying how the Irish were thrashing the All Blacks - it's hard to detect sarcasm in a text message so we rushed to the television in a panic) and I got up to watch England draw with the USA in their opening World Cup match.  A draw?  Against the USA?  Oh dear.

And that was about it.  Mike went to a Home Show with Sally and Andrew but by all accounts it was a bit lame.  So, the weekend passed by and now the working week stretches ahead of me.

Have a wonderful week.
Love,
Angela

Good morning on Fri, Jun 11

Hi,

Two days off for a Sharepoint conference proved a good use of time.  The conference was generally high quality and the sessions aimed at me were very good.

Of course, the scariest part of the week came at 5.10pm on Wednesday when I had just finished my last session.  A text from Dad saying he wasn't taking Toby to karate.  Why, I wondered?  So I rang.  Turns out Toby has chicken pox.  Oh dear.  The poor wee boy.  Obviously that Australian vaccine was just saline.  Heheheh.

We've had reports and emails from his school saying children have been catching this strain who have had vaccinations and possibly even children that have already had chicken pox are getting it.  Anyhow, we're hoping his vaccination means this will be a mild case.

Mum is looking after him (and Dad is not breathing around him) and we saw him last night.  He is pretty chipper for a sick wee lad.  We'll collect him tonight after work and bring him home for the weekend.  He'll probably be off school for a lot of next week too.  So perhaps we'll have some sick leave to take to look after him.  Mum can't be expected to do all of it.

Weekend activities are now bed rest and lots of reading with Toby.  No swimming.  No sleepovers.

Anyhow - I need a cup of tea now.  Everything will be better with a nice cuppa.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Tues, Jun 8

Hi,

What a lovely long weekend - Mike and I were so productive.  We crossed off many of our outstanding tasks and think three-day weekends should be far more regular.  The poor weather helped a lot.  The police say the road toll of 1 for the whole country was a reflection of their zero tolerance on speeding.  I think it was the poor weather kept most people tucked up cosy at home.

Friday night we met the Lewises and went to see Robin Hood at the movies in Courtney Place (Reading).  The verdict was mixed - ok, but could do better was probably the main comment.  We went to Grand India (or is that "Great"?) for dinner afterwards and the place was packed.  We had a lovely meal and then John dropped me and Mike home.  Mike was wedged into the back seat and had to roll out of the door when we got home.  Their interior light will also never be the same.  I think it was crushed into powder.

Saturday morning was a lazy morning and the sky was a strange colour - blue!  Toby had slept over at Grandy and Gramps's house on Friday night (and was no doubt spoiled well, with lots of attention) and was enjoying his stay.  We took lunch over and played PS2 games (and Singstar - oh no - hold on!  That was just me doing the Singstar!!) for ages.  Mike was trying to get some work done, and my dulcet tones weren't helping.  I wonder why not?  ;-)  So we went home and Mike got stuck into his new project (running webs on a Linux machine, using Apache) and Toby and I watched TV.

Then we tucked up into bed after dinner (Burger Wisconsin because we hadn't had it for ages) and Toby and I watched "Honey I shrunk the Kids".  We both really enjoyed it.  We watched it as Karen had mentioned she watched it with her kids a few weeks back and it went down a treat.  Toby cried when "Anty" died though.  He was saying "But it is Walt Disney, how could he die?" through his sobs.  This may have been exacerbated by Merlot lashing out at him a little earlier when Toby gave a belly laugh as Merlot lay on his chest.  She got what for!  And then Toby cried at the shock of the reaction from Merlot.  The movie was a rollercoaster of emotions.  Who knew?

Sunday dawned rainy and cold again.  Toby slept in till 9am!  Wow!  We got ready and wandered into town for Yum Cha.  We collected Vivienne on the way in and got a big table for everyone.  Sally and Andrew, and John, Christine and Tom.  So it was a big social brunch.  Then Sally and Andrew dropped me and Vivienne off after perusing Whitcoulls for a while.

Wee Tom came to stay for the afternoon and his first sleepover at our house.  He was very good.  Toby was good with him.  He kept him out of any trouble and helped him if he thought he needed it.  Tom is an early riser though.  5.30am.  Groan.  We told them it was too early and got another 30 minutes out of them before Mike gave in and put Cartoon Network on.  Then we got another hour out of them.  Then Toby brought Tom upstairs and made him breakfast (a big bowl of cornflakes), came in and asked us what we wanted (he asked me if I wanted toast, but I was too scared to think of him playing with electricity on his own so I asked for a small bowl of rice bubbles) and then I got breakfast in bed.  A big bowl, with a little rice bubbles, on a breakfast tray.  Mike got the same, but with Weetbix (and a small plastic spoon as we heard a plaintive cry of "We've run out of spoons" from the kitchen).

Mike and I were very impressed with Toby.  The kids played downstairs again and Mike caught up on a bit more sleep.  John came over to collect Tom (and we have since found Tom's socks and toothbrush) and we settled in to read and work on outstanding items (we booked our ski trip in the second week of school holidays and bought Toby's ski jacket to replace his one we bought when he was 3 years old!  After lunch the Tabors dropped in to say hello and Toby had a ball playing with Duncan and Emerson for the first time in ages.  We need to arrange a sleepover for them!

Then, in the afternoon, Mike and I finally moved the bookcase in the lounge to its rightful place.  Makes the room look bigger, I think.  Mike finished his Paua Hut trip report (in the blog) and we got dinner ready.  Toby had an early night after his sleepovers and he went to bed really well.

I have decided to ride through the foulest weather in pursuit of better fitness leading up to our ski week and left this morning with cold, fat drops of rain starting to pelt down.  What was I thinking?  However, the rain stopped 2 kms into my journey and it was just the cold that hit me.  My fingerless gloves are getting the flick tonight when I get home.  I seem to have an earache as well.  It hurt a little this morning at home and when I got to the bottom of the hill, I got shooting pains.  Hopefully it disappears.

Have a great short week here in NZ, and enjoy the long weekend coming up in Aus.
Love,
Angela

Good morning on Fri, Jun 4

Hi,

I made sure I spelled "Fri" right this morning.  It was really annoying seeing the "Thrus" every time someone replied to me yesterday.

I face painted Toby this morning - it is Wacky Wheels Day and you have to do something weird to your head, or pay 50c, to bring your scooter or skateboard to school.  I practised during the week (Tues night) with Toby and face painted a wonderful pirate.  Toby loved it.  So I was very surprised when he said he didn't want a pirate this morning.  He wanted... an X.  And undies on his head.  Ok.  Fine.  So Toby has a magnificent X on his face, and blue undies on his head.  Ma - don't be too surprised when you collect him after school.

Mum will collect wee Toby (and his overnight bag from our house) and take him away for an afternoon of pampering from his Grandy.  Afternoon tea is lined up somewhere, then 4 episodes of his current favourite TV show (maybe the League of Super Heroes - or Evil - I can't keep up!) followed by his favourite dinner (chicken schnitzels) and more pampering from Gramps no doubt once he gets home.  Mike and I will collect him tomorrow morning.

We're off to see Robin Hood tonight.  Should be a good diversion for a few hours.  Vivienne has organised it.  And hopefully we'll see her again on Sunday morning for Yum Cha (Grand Century - opposite Harvey Norman in Tory St at 11am).

I'm off to the tea room now for a lovely cuppa.  Can't wait!

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Thrus, Jun 3

Hi,

Ok - after Andrew goaded me about my poor attitude to a bit of rain, I was determined to ride in this morning.  And it actually wasn't too bad at all.  The roads were wet, but it wasn't raining.  That is, until 500m from work.  I got held up by traffic lights and stood there, astride my bike, getting rather wet.  And what's more, something weird is going on.  I hadn't packed my work socks in my bag.  First time in 2.5 years of commuting here in Wellington where I got to work and was missing clothing.  I now reckon I look like a Michael Jackson supporter with my black pants, black shoes... and white sports socks poking out in-between.

Tennis was cancelled (it must be creating an admin nightmare for the tennis coach as we need refunds for certain number of cancellations per term) but karate went ahead.  Toby needed a red tab on his new yellow belt so he couldn't go to the front of the class until Mike added the red tabs (I thought the sensei would do it for him).

Dinner was nice.  Ma experiements sometimes on Wednesday evenings and last night we had a modern take on potatoes and lamb stew.  It was ok.  I ate quite a lot.  Dad wasn't keen and Toby decided it wasn't nice (but did eat a lot of the bread Mum had bought).  Ma might not try that one out again.

We're off to the movies on Friday night with Vivienne, John, Benjamin (maybe), and maybe Sally and Andrew.  We want to see Robin Hood.  Mum and Dad went the other night and said it was good.  Don;t tell Toby that's what we're seeing.  We just finished reading Robin Hood last night (Toby was astonished that he died in the end - heroes don't die) so he'd be keen to see the movie.  I think perhaps one of the older versions might be suitable for him.  Errol Flynn version anyone?  :-)

Toby will sleepover at Mum and Dad's place on Friday night - there is no swimming because of the long weekend.  Then we'll pop up to Waikanae to visit the Tabors (if they're well).  Then Yum Cha on Sunday.  I think Sally and Andrew might be keen for that.  Vivienne - you keen too (unless you're diving!)?  11am at the place opposite Harvey Norman.

That's about it.  Time to get stuck in.
Love,
Angela

Good morning on Wed, June 2

Hi there,

Wet enough for ducks this morning.  I took the bus.  Heheheh.  Mind you, despite staying quite dry and warm, I feel wet and cold at my desk.  Go figure.  Maybe it's because I can see outside to the misty gloom.

I heard briefly that Mum and Dad enjoyed Robin Hood last night for the anniversary night out on the town.  Good on them.  I drove in to collect Mike and we also drove his work colleague home (it was late and cold and wet and making her travel on a train for ages just seemed cruel).  To top it off, Mike and Toby wanted McDonalds at 8.30pm last night on the way back.  Madness.  It did seem odd eating at that time on a Tuesday.

Tennis today.  Well, probably not.  I never got Toby his racquet as I suspect no tennis.  But karate is on.  I never got his Gi out of the linen cupboard so someone needs to do that (Ma or Dad or Mike).  Yes - I am out of sorts this morning.  Not too sure why.

Ok.  Time to get stuck in once more to my workload.  My cup of tea is hitting the spot.

Love,
Angela

Good morning on Tues, Jun 1

Hi,

June already.  Amazing.  Lots of birthdays in June!  Bring it on, eh?  Happy anniversary to Mum and Dad for their 19th year today!  They're off to a movie and dinner this evening.  And congratulations to my sister, Shona, for passing a tricky maths exam for her studies.  How proud I am!

Keas went well after a stuttering start.  When I got to the Sampson residence, no one was home.  There was a suprise basketball assessment going on and I had to find the Samuel Marsden gym and grab the house keys to get the Scout Hall key from the Sampson house.  And take Chelsea and Brennan and get them changed and open the hall - all in the space of about 4 minutes.  But I was only 3 minutes late.  And Rob volunteered to help out until Wally arrived.  The pinatas were a huge, smashing hit.  Toby had tears when he couldn't find his (we were away last week when the other Keas painted theirs) but when I figured out Hamish had painted Toby's and Toby could have Hamish's - everything came right.  Phew!  We have a day off next Monday from Keas because of Queens Birthday weekend.

Home for tea with Mike and huge discussions about work before bed where we got distracted by Eurovision 2010 finalists on YouTube.  What a great event.  I giggled myself to sleep.

The ride in was somehow lovely this morning.  Rain is threatened today (and for the rest of the week), but the roads were bone dry and I loved the ride in.  The wind was gentle, the lighting was flat but still morning-like.  Can't really explain it.

Everyone have a great day!
Love,
Angela
