Driving, shopping, Umbrella Foundation

Day 13 - Pokhara to Kathmandu

No time for breakfast! We snacked on pastry and chai before jumping on a bus around 7am. First stop though was an unexpected coffee bar out in the country that did me a superb double espresso.

Traffic was light and we made good time. We reached our lunch spot at 11am. A few cautionary cars in ditches, trucks in ditches, a bus on its side and (the most disturbing) two buses that had collided head-on. But we made it unscathed to our hotel around 3pm.

Reunited with the suitcase I left behind in Kathmandu. Caught up with 'housework' and a bit of shopping.

In the afternoon we headed to the Umbrella Foundation, an organisation that Bharat and Wellington High School has connections to. It works to dismantle child trafficking in Nepal. Every time Bharat comes over he brings bags of clothes for them. A lovely Irish woman taught us a view scary truths about child trafficking, orphanages exploiting western heartstrings, volunteers who are simply used as funding sources and take jobs from locals, and more stories like this. Not nice stuff.

Familiar Dal bhat dinner in hotel. Photographed the moon from the roof but sunset was 45min too late for us to see today's lunar eclipse.
